SENIOR MEMBRANE SCIENTIST
Responsibilities
Day-to-day responsibilities will include product engineering, directing hand-cast and commercial reverse osmosis membrane synthesis and testing, spiral-wound membrane element prototype testing, new product conception and development, and assisting the VP of Manufacturing in building a world class manufacturing plant from the ground-up based on well developed technology currently demonstrated at the prototype scale. Liaison with the Manufacturing Team to translate novel membrane chemistries into commercial products through appropriate manufacturing process engineering and equipment design. Liaison with the Applications Engineering Team to ensure element compatibility with broader plant design specifications
Qualifications
7+ years leadership experience in UF and RO membrane development. Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment with short cycle times for delivering results. Demonstrated ability to work in teams with other scientists and engineers. Demonstrated innovation in membrane development as well as an aptitude for lateral thinking. Hands-on experience in developing advanced membrane materials. Demonstrated ability to work with and lead creative scientific/engineering projects. An advanced engineering or scientific degree (MS/PhD). Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.

PROCESS/MANUFACTURING ENGINEER - PRODUCT ENGINEERINGResponsibilities: Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
• Proven experience with process design and equipment manufacturing support for a new product
• Analyzing current processes and delivering options for improved methods to current manufacturing practices
• Focus on maximizing product quality and capital asset utilization
• Coordinating the implementation of new equipment and material handling systems with external suppliers and internal company resources
• Design of reverse osmosis membrane manufacturing lines and element fabrication
• Establishing supplier contacts to develop improvement alternatives to existing products through review and evaluation of prospective processes for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, specification and company contract requirements
• Developing documentation, gauging methods, improving tooling, making suggestions for improved WIP flow in support of new and existing processes and equipment.
• Participating in technical meetings as requested with the purpose of providing resolutions to problematic processes
• Preparing Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) and Maintenance checklists and conducted training for maintenance/operations personnel on new equipment and processes
• Proven abilities in modern production management methods
• Analyzing data to assess operating performance levels and making recommendations to senior staff on the potential for continuous process improvements and optimizations (e.g. measuring factors such as cost, time, output and work methods)
• Using the project standards and protocol, Process Engineering develops tests and implements modeling techniques and approaches to simulate, improve and optimize production
• Troubleshooting and making recommendations to modify the design of existing and new equipment including data acquisition systems, modeling programs, hardware/software and equipment specifications

- Senior Design Engineer - Product Engineering (June 05, 2009)
SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER - PRODUCT ENGINEERINGThis position will be part of the Engineering Team and report to the VP Engineering.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
• Performing engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, temperature, pressure, force, as related to product design
• Managing design from concept to production
• Producing required engineering deliverables for the product design including working drawings, prototypes, detailed drawings and bills of materials for sub-assemblies or products using SolidWorks
• Formalizing and updating drawing documentation
• Participating in regular meetings to capture changes for implementation in the design standards
• Organizing documentation, including quotes, drawing registers, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, and schedules on assigned projects
• Providing mentorship as well as expertise and direction on design and CAD to a team of dynamic engineers
• Other duties as required
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will hold a degree in mechanical engineering with five to ten years of design engineering experience preferably with injection molded, steel fabricated components. DIRECTOR OF APPLICATIONS AND PROCESS ENGINEERINGThis position reports to the Chief Scientific Officer.
Responsibilities
– Manage and train a team of applications and process engineers.
– Conduct engineering optimization of desalination system designs to take advantage of high permeability membranes.
– Design and operation of pilot testing equipment that demonstrates the advantages of NanoH2O nanocomposite RO membranes.
– Development of test protocols for comparing NanoH2O membranes with other commercial membranes.
– Interface with potential customers to make pilot testing and system design recommendations.
– Development of system modeling software for internal and customer use.
– Work with other senior managers to develop budgets and schedules.
– Provide QA/QC processes for testing protocols.
– Liaise with the R&D team to develop new product specifications.
– Liaise with the R&D Team to conduct pilot-scale testing of new membrane products.
– Liaise with the R&D Team to obtain and maintain required certifications.

Engineering degree and 10+ years of experience in seawater desalination system engineering with budgetary responsibility. Thorough direct understanding of engineering issues surrounding seawater and brackish water reverse osmosis plants including intakes, pretreatment options, pump selection, piping design, pressure vessels, energy recovery and concentrate disposal. Experience with water reuse systems a plus. Demonstrated ability to manage engineering staff. Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment with short cycle times for delivering results. Demonstration of engineering design innovation for desalination plants as well as an aptitude for lateral thinking. A thorough understanding of membrane processes and system design along with a demonstrated attention to detail and innovation. Excellent organizational skills and written and verbal communications skills are required.
