Led by a team of experts in the fields of desalination,engineering, operations, finance, marketing and business development, NanoH2O is comprised of individuals who are passionate and dedicated to building the world's premier provider of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for desalination and water reuse.

 

Jeff Green

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Green is an experienced early-stage, venture-backed technology entrepreneur. Previously, as a software entrepreneur, Mr. Green founded two software startups, Archive, Inc. (sold to Cyclone Commerce) and Stamps.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: "STMP"). In both companies, Mr. Green co-wrote the original business plan and played a key role in raising over $300 million in private equity, public and debt financing. At both companies, Mr. Green was responsible for directing the company’s strategy, business model and marketing operations, including product management. Prior to his career as an entrepreneur, Mr. Green garnered marketing and strategy experience at leading companies such as Mitchell Madison, Hewlett Packard and Ziff-Davis. Mr. Green holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from UCLA Anderson.

Bob Burk

Founder and Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Burk has more than 25 years of experience as a senior manager at international engineering firms, and brings with him a wealth of contacts in the engineering industry as well as municipal and private water and wastewater entities. With early work on the link between CO2 and climate, his current expertise includes water supply and treatment issues for water from fresh, contaminated, and seawater sources. He has had consulting relationships with a diversity of water resources and wastewater clients. Work on wastewater has ranged from large municipal and hazardous sites, to large mines, to consulting on nuclear waste issues for the United States, Swiss and Japanese governments. As co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at NanoH2O he has managed the efforts of the Research and Development team to develop the next generation of reverse osmosis membranes for water reuse and desalination.

John Markovich

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Markovich has more than 22 years of executive financial and operational management experience assisting rapidly-growing public and private technology-based companies develop through all phases of maturity. During his career, he has negotiated and closed over 120 debt & equity financing and M&A transactions exceeding $1.8 billion in value, including a $95 million IPO, and has directed the finance, accounting, tax, M&A, legal, operations, IR, human resources and IT functions for companies ranging from privately-held pre-revenue startups to an NYSE-listed Fortune 500 multi-national company with over $1.2 billion in annual revenue. Prior to joining NanoH2O, Mr. Markovich was the CFO of EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ: “EMKR”), a $220 million manufacturer of compound semiconductor-based components, subsystems and systems for the fiber optics and space & terrestrial solar power markets, and previously held CFO positions at Energy Innovations, Orqis Medical Corporation, Pictos Technologies, Tickets.com (NASDAQ: “TIXX”), Autobytel.com (NASDAQ: “ABTL”) and Optical Coating Laboratories (NASDAQ: “OCLI”). Mr. Markovich holds a BS in business from Miami University and an MBA from Michigan State University and is a graduate of Stanford University’s Financial Management Program.

CJ Kurth

Vice President of Research and Development

Mr. Kurth is a 14-year veteran of the membrane desalination industry with a breadth of experience in the research and development departments of Osmonics and GE Water and Process Technologies. During his tenure Mr. Kurth was awarded several patents for new membrane chemistry, cartridges, production processes and applications, and has led teams developing new membrane products from early stage lab work through full scale commercial launches. For one of these products he was awarded the GE Leadership Award for Technical Innovation in 2004. Mr. Kurth was also involved in the hiring, training, and laboratory set up for a new membrane research and development group located in Shanghai, China. Mr. Kurth holds both a BS and MS in chemistry from the University of Minnesota.

Nicholas Dyner

Vice President of Market Development

Nick Dyner brings to NanoH2O his global experience in commercial leadership within the water treatment industry. Mr. Dyner joined the company from Water Standard, the industry leader in vessel based desalination, where he led all commercial related activities as VP of Business Development. Prior to Water Standard, Mr. Dyner was Global Product Manager for General Electric's Water & Process Technologies Build, Own & Operate (BOO) product line managing all outsourced water contracts worldwide including the company's outsourced water desalination business in the Caribbean and Canary islands. In addition, he served as a board member of GEMA, a Mexico Build, Own, Operate based JV between GE and Toyo-Mitsui. He is a graduate of GE's Experienced Commercial Leadership Program and Six Sigma BB certified. Mr. Dyner is a graduate from Cornell University with a BS in Economics and a BA in History.

Kyle MacDonald

Vice President of Operations

Ms. Kyle MacDonald holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and brings almost 20 years of manufacturing management experience from senior level positions at Polaroid Corporation, most recently serving as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Instant Imaging business unit. During her tenure, Ms. MacDonald led highly skilled teams in Operations, Product Development and Research and Development to improve profitability and key performance metrics. By implementing Six Sigma and Cycle Time initiatives, she delivered an 11 percent reduction in spending and an 8 percent improvement in process capability across operations in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Ms. MacDonald brings considerable experience in roll-to-roll coating technologies and is Six Sigma Variability Reduction Leader (VRL) trained.

Randy Truby

Director of Global Sales Strategies

Randy Truby is a 40-year veteran of the membrane desalination industry. As Director of Global Sales Strategies, Mr. Truby is responsible for assisting NanoH2O with its worldwide sales and product development initiatives.

Mr. Truby’s experience in the desalination industry dates back to General Atomics, widely recognized as the first premier company in the membrane desalination industry. Mr. Truby has been instrumental in facilitating the industry’s growth, as it progressed from the first generation of cellulose acetate spiral wound membranes to thin-film polyamide membranes to NanoH2O’s development of nanocomposite membranes. Throughout the evolution of the membrane industry, Mr. Truby has held a number of key leadership positions including CEO of Fluid Systems, Vice President of Operations at Hydranautics and, most recently, CEO of Toray Membranes USA.

Barry Fischer

Director of Manufacturing

Mr. Fischer brings to the manufacturing team extensive leadership experience in manufacturing operations, quality, engineering, and finance. Mr. Fischer joins NanoH2O after 18 ½ years with GE, the most recent six years in the RO membrane business as membrane manufacturing manager and quality assurance manager. He carries a passion for safety, quality, and Lean, and has demonstrated the ability to transform teams, reducing manufacturing scrap by over $1 million over a five-year period, reducing safety accidents to zero in a facility typically worse than industry average, while simultaneously increasing production by over 60%. Mr. Fischer is Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certified. Prior to GE, Mr. Fischer served five years as a US Naval Officer in the nuclear propulsion program. He has a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

Freidoon Rastegar

Director of Engineering

Mr. Rastegar is the Director of Engineering at NanoH2O and is responsible for new equipment design, automation, maintenance and facilities planning. Before joining the NanoH2O team, he managed the design through production process for optical coatings on aircraft canopies and large area glass at GKN Aerospace. While at GKN, he reduced scrap rates of ITO coating line by 25% and increased glass coating yields by 50%. Mr. Rastegar also has design and manufacturing experience for solar panel coaters for WMX Systems in Hong Kong, and design-build experience on a solar sputter coater for MiaSole in California. In addition to focusing on materials, tribology, lubrication and coatings in his doctorate work, Mr. Rastegar also holds a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a BS in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee.

Will Kain

Director of Strategic Planning

Mr. Kain has spent his 10-year career exclusively in corporate finance and development roles. Before joining NanoH2O, Mr. Kain served as Vice President of Corporate Finance for Altra Biofuels, a venture-backed alternative fuels company. At Altra, Mr. Kain was responsible for managing five project-level debt facilities totaling more than $350 million, played a key role in the recapitalization of Altra’s balance sheet, and directed commercial relationships with distribution partners. Prior to Altra, Mr. Kain spent five years at UBS Investment Bank, where he was an Associate Director in the US Equity Capital Markets Group helping to develop a new product team that was responsible for more than $4 billion in public offerings over a two-year period. Mr. Kain holds BA degrees in Economics and Government from the University of Virginia.
